Adam Sandler fans devastated as highly-anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel is hit with heartbreaking blow

Adam Sandler fans were left heartbroken on Tuesday after a major update about the highly-anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel was announced. The upcoming sequel is set to premiere in July, and comes almost three decades after the original film debuted. The second movie will see Sandler returning to the golf green as Happy Gilmore, alongside returning stars Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald and newcomers Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, and Blake Clark. With the first official trailer arriving on Tuesday, fans expressed their excitement for the film's release. But, at the same time, many have lamented that it won't be hitting theaters. Instead, Happy Gilmore 2 will be heading straight to Netflix, and will be available to stream on July 25. Taking to social media to express their disappointment, many said that they would 'happily' pay to go and see the comedy on the big screen. Posting on X, one user said: 'The new Happy Gilmore movie releasing straight to Netflix and not in theaters rattles me to my core.'
Happy Gilmore 2 is headed to Netflix on July 25, three decades after the original film... but some fans are heartbroken that it's not releasing in theaters
The comedy will see Adam Sandler reprise his role as the titular golf champion 'Should be releasing in theaters,' added another. A third wrote: 'The fact Happy Gilmore 2 is only on Netflix is a major disappointment. It's one of the few films in the last decade I'd actually go to the theater to watch.' 'Would pay to watch Happy Gilmore 2 in a packed theater. Happily,' tweeted a fourth. A fifth continued: 'The fact there's no theatrical release is a shame.' Earlier this month, Anora director Sean Baker urged cinephiles to keep going to the theater as he gave an impassioned acceptance speech at the Oscars. 'Watching a film in the theater with an audience is an experience,' he said. 'We can laugh together, cry together, scream in fright together, perhaps sit in devastated silence together… 'It's a communal experience you simply don't get at home. And right now, the theater going experience is under threat.'
The hotly-anticipated sequel will also see Sandler make a comeback alongside returning stars Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller,  and Christopher McDonald

But many fans are disappointed that the film won't be releasing in theaters, and took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their heartbreak Happy Gilmore 2 will also feature a handful of professional golfers too, including John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris. Travis Kelce is also amongst the star-studded cast. In a teaser released on Christmas Day, the footballer appeared to assume the role of a hotel or country club employee and was seen in a vest and tie greeting Sandler's character. 'It's great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore,' he said. Sandler previously gushed about Kelce's involvement in the film while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last August. 'We have a nice something for Travis,' he said at the time. 'He's going to come by. He's a very nice guy…What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He's a stud, and he's so funny.' Sharing the trailer to his Instagram, Sandler said in his accompanying caption: 'Hope you all have fun and thanks for all the great times.'
